Wix is the best option if you want a beautiful website with a lot of features but don’t want to hire a web developer thousands of dollars to design it. Wix is jam-packed with easy-to-integrate interactive features. An easy-to-use web-building tool that even non-techies can use. In this Wix review, we’ll go over everything you need to know about Wix so you can choose the perfect site builder for you.
What is Wix
Wix is one of the most widely used website builders online. It was created in 2006 and went into beta the following year. It now has over 37 million websites using its services throughout the world. Its legacy will be the ability for non-technical people to construct their own websites at a far lower cost. Because the platform allows anybody with no prior experience of web design or programming to establish a website or blog, it has eliminated the need to hire a web designer or developer.
Wix was originally a Flash-based platform when it joined the site builder industry. With all of the well-known issues with Flash, the Wix team switched to HTML5 as their primary technology in March 2012. This modification was a huge success, as it drastically decreased the number of issues and malfunctions on the platform, resulting in $60 million in yearly revenues.
This platform has always had periodic upgrades announced, and this trend has continued in recent days. The launch of a series of advanced managerial apps, as well as improved support for e-commerce sites, occurred in 2013. Wix acquired Appixia, an Israeli start-up specializing in the creation of mobile commerce (m-commerce) applications, in March of the same year.
Wix is proud of its product and confident in its abilities. So much so that they spent money on a big marketing effort involving Jason Statham and Gal Gadot during the 2017 Super Bowl. Two huge celebrities endorsing a product on the biggest platform of them all is one hell of a campaign, and it’s just one of the reasons why Wix currently hosts over 90 million websites. Remarkable.
WIX is Ridiculously Easy To Use
Wix is without a doubt one of the most user-friendly and straightforward website builders available today. It makes the most of What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editors and drag-and-drop functionality. This implies that users may quickly and easily pick, resize, and place any virtual item within the platform. While many other website builders limit users to placing items in preset regions or blocks, Wix allows users to add components anywhere they like. Wix is one of the few website builders that allows you to animate text and other components.
Wix is a favorite among businesses in the creative niches, such as photography, design firms, freelance designers, and musicians, because of its platform that is user friendly, which provides highly specific tools and functions whereby individuals can simply drag and drop onto their websites. A beautiful online construction platform for people with little or no experience with web programming or design, making it a perfect site construction option for companies like:
- Law firms
- Hobby Businesses
Wix ADI – Artificial Design Intelligence
Wix attempts to innovate and push the boundaries when it comes to generating innovative apps and features for their platforms as a long-standing player in the site development sector. The most recent addition is a feature known as ADI ( Artificial Design Intelligence ). This feature makes creating your own website even easier than it would be if you just used Wix’s basic web builder. Wix ADI creates your website from the ground up for you.
It’s really easy to use. Simply enter any existing website or social accounts (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Linkedin, and so on) and Wix ADI will crawl and retrieve all information about your company from these content sources. The data will then be utilized to construct a first version website for you to start with, or if it’s a great first time, all you have to do is hit publish! We tried it out for ourselves, and to be totally honest, it’s about 70% as good as the genuine thing. You’ll need to tweak the content and update it, but aside from a few font style adjustments, new pictures, and color scheme adjustments, you’re ready to go!

Properties and flexibility
This website builder has a lot to offer – even the completely free plan has a lengthy list of features, such as SEO, blog and webstore creation, social media integration, and more. Users may get additional features by going to Wix’s own App Store, which includes both free and paid applications, or by upgrading to premium plans. Hundreds of third-party applications are available in the App Store that may be used to add extra features like live chat or newsletter widgets.
Wix can be used for a variety of sites, from basic personal portfolios to larger and more complicated e-stores, thanks to all of the applications and extensions that can add features like live help, newsletters, contests, reservations, and testimonials. It’s worth noting, though, that Wix has its own e-commerce platform with a robust set of configurable features (payment options, coupons, management fees, and others). If the service you wish to add to your site to provide value for your customers isn’t already included in the core package, there’s probably an app for it.
Wix was also one of the first site builders to provide mobile optimization tools, allowing site owners to make their sites responsive and viewable on smartphones and tablets with only a few clicks. One advantage of this feature is that it eliminates the need for two different sites, as well as two different URLs for each site: there is just one site, and the proper version will be shown according to the device being used to view it. So there you have it: our personal definition of responsive web design and development.
In terms of SEO, Wix offers several interactive lessons to help customers started on this topic and enhance the Google ranking of their Wix website. Wix SEO features, like most website builders, allow users to customize things like page and meta descriptions, titles, and keywords. There is also a free Wix SEO tool that can be installed to a site and provides an easy-to-follow, step-by-step approach to improving a site’s online exposure.
Wix excels in the design department, with some of the greatest themes accessible among website builders. They’re constantly fresh, cutting-edge, and unique, and they’re all available for free.
Music, Services & Business, Entertainment, Personal, Photography, Online Store, Personal, and many other categories are included in the templates. However, there is one drawback to these templates: they cannot be completely altered. Colors, fonts, and other background design elements can be altered, but the template’s core structure cannot be altered.
Wix App Market
Wix comes with a number of useful built-in tools. However, like with other web builders, they are limited in their abilities. So, if Wix’s built-in tools can’t accomplish anything, there’s certainly a Wix app that can.
Wix Apps are comparable to WordPress Plugins or Chrome Extensions in that they are created by third-party developers to assist Wix customers in adding functionality to their websites that isn’t available inside the Wix web building platform.
It’s filled with advanced tools that will improve your site’s overall efficiency by boosting it, making it even more powerful, and giving you choices to add features. Overall, it expands the capabilities of your website. The majority of these applications are free to use and can be added in a matter of seconds.
Wix For Blogs
Wix has a few different layouts for generating blogs, as well as a lot of different templates. Wix provides some really useful tools and components to go along with these templates. The post editor is extremely user-friendly and universal, making the process of getting your content from idea to publishing a breeze. You may simply integrate your written articles for Facebook comments and sharing on social media feeds, as well as the standard tagging and categorization. You may also schedule them for publishing at a time that is convenient for you.
Wix For eCommerce
Wix is an excellent platform for creating an e-commerce site. Every page in your store, including the layout of product pages, may be customized. Setting the language or currency in your shopping cart section is simple, and customizing the back end of your site is as simple. WIx has everything you need to set up your store’s product details and shipping aspects, such as establishing discount rates or coupon codes on products, shipping regulations for free/standard/international, and, speaking of international, you can set up specific tax rules to comply with local laws for sales made outside of the United States. There’s a lot to see and do here.
Wix features a highly user-friendly design with a lot of directions, suggestions, (each modifiable element in a site has an obvious question mark at the side – clicking on it will display more advice and technical advice). Users will gain knowledge as their construction evolves. However, if users encounter significant issues that they are unable to resolve on their own, they may always turn to the Support Center or the Forums for assistance. There are several lessons, videos, and even direct communication with their team available there.
Wix Price Plans
Wix offers a free plan that never expires, as well as five different premium options with monthly or annual billing. In comparison to other site builders, the premium plans are relatively affordable. The ‘Connect Domain’ package is the lowest, costing $5 per month, while the ‘VIP’ plan is the most costly, costing $25 per month. There are three more options in between those two plans: the ‘Combo’ plan ($10/month), the ‘Unlimited’ plan ($14/month), and the ‘e-commerce’ plan ($17/month).
All of these 5 premium plans offer free hosting, no set-up charge, templates, Google Analytics, premium support, completely configurable sites, and the ability to link an existing domain. However, the ‘Connect Domain’ plan includes Wix Brand advertisements, which are not included in any of the other premium options.
If you want to try out Wix before investing in a premium account, the Free Plan is a great place to start. Also, if you just want to start a tiny personal website or educational blog in a field where traffic and revenues aren’t a big deal. For instance, a local club or organization where you wish to share knowledge and ideas with a small group of people without investing a lot of time or money.
The free account has limited storage and bandwidth, making it unsuitable for a professional company website. Your site will be filled with Wix branded advertisements, and your URL will be Wix branded. This isn’t really ideal for a company website, but it’s not such a big deal for a tiny, niche-focused website, club, or blog.
‘Connect Domain’ Plan
$4.50 per month
This is Wix’s basic Premium Plan, which is on the ground floor. This plan isn’t really suited for a professional business because the Wix advertising are still visible on your site. However, one of the advantages of the Connect Domain Plan over the free account is that you may use it to move your own domain name to Wix. That is not possible with the free plan. With the free plan, you still receive a restricted 500GB of storage and 1TB of bandwidth, which is insufficient for even a tiny site. The Connect Plan also gives you access to Wix premium assistance, Google Analytics, and free hosting, which you don’t get with the Free Plan.
$8.50 per month
The Wix Branded Ads are eliminated from the Combo Plan, which is the cheapest of the Premium Plans. Again, with 2GB of bandwidth and 3GB of storage, this subscription is best suited for personal blogs and projects rather than companies. The Combo Plan does include $75 in ad vouchers and a personalized favicon, but we would classify it as an intermediate level. For a personal blog with a small readership or a large active following that is more casual and informal than a professional site.
$12.50 per month
Now it’s time to get serious. The Ultimate Plan includes everything you’ll need to get a professional website up and operating, as long as it doesn’t include an eCommerce component. You receive 10GB of storage and unlimited bandwidth, which is a significant improvement over the Combo Plan. You also receive the Form Builder App ($48 value) and the Site Booster App ($60 value) in addition to all the benefits of the Combo Plan.
$17 per month if paid annually
The eCommerce plans are split into VIP, Unlimited and Basic as well. have all of the same features as the Unlimited Plan, with the exception of bandwidth. Funny enough, the Unlimited Plan provides you unlimited bandwidth. The eCommerce Plan, on the other hand, only provides 10GB of bandwidth. Only because I say so, but 10GB should suffice for all except the largest retailers. You also receive 20GB of storage and access to your online store, as well as everything else that comes with it.
$24.50 per month
Wix’s VIP Plan is a relatively new product, and it is not a tiny one. This is the granddaddy of Wix’s bundles. You receive all of the features of the eCommerce plan plus unlimited storage, 10 monthly e-mail campaigns, and a professional site assessment. You’ll also get two free premium applications ($108 value) if you sign up for a yearly or biannual membership.
Things To Note
You can subscribe to any of the plans on a biannual, yearly, or month-to-month basis. On any of the plans, however, you will not receive the free domain, ad coupons, Site Booster, or Form Builder if you choose a month-to-month subscription. You may lose out on a significant amount of extra value as a result of this.
On the other hand, if you sign up for a yearly or biannual membership to the Unlimited, eCommerce, or VIP Plan, you’ll get two free premium applications. That’s helpful to know.
Advantages (Pros) Of Using Wix
On all Wix packages except the lowest, you receive a free domain for a year. The numerous templates customized to various sectors remove all of the hard work from designing and creating your site, allowing you to have a professional-looking site up and running in minutes. The large app market may offer your site a range of customer-focused, value-adding services, and the support center is pretty remarkable.
Disadvantages (Cons) Of Using Wix
Let’s be honest. Web builders are not without its flaws. There will always be some drawbacks. Now, we are a huge Wix fan, but there are a few things that irritate us.
Let’s take a brief look at them.
1. Ads On Free Plan
Firstly, it is the fact that the free plan contains some advertisements. Despite their annoyance, these advertisements are understandable; after all, people utilize their service for free. However, some of these advertisements may be quite irritating. I’ve noticed that they’ve become much more apparent over time. Perhaps this is simply a Wix ploy to entice free users to upgrade to premium accounts.
2. Not 100% Mobile-Friendly
Wix themes are often excellent when it comes to being responsive across devices and browsers. On rare occasions, though, they are not.
When you publish your site with other website builders, it will instantly include all of your content and fit it precisely into the mobile template. We find that when using Wix.com, we have to annoyingly modify the site to make it fit into the mobile version.
The Wix platform’s mobile edit functionality is shown above. This is how you edit each device’s template. While most material may be transferred to the mobile design without issue, more dynamic material, such as scrolling timelines, may be cut off when viewed on mobile devices. It took a lot of tinkering to get it right.
3. Short Money Back Guarantee Time Frame
Furthermore, while the 14-day money-back promise is commendable, it pales in comparison to others in the market. It doesn’t allow you much time to acclimate or grow comfortable in your surroundings. You can’t truly test the metal of a company’s customer service until you have your first issue, and although I’m happy with Wix’s assistance, the guarantee period simply feels a little too short to be honest.
4. No Live Chat or Phone Support
This is an odd one. With Wix’s large user base, you’d think they’d provide phone and live chat assistance.
They do offer a comprehensive support area on their website as well as a Twitter account dedicated to assisting individuals with their problems, but sometimes you just want to talk to a real person.
The site builder market is quite competitive. Wix is somewhat ahead of the competition, but competitors are making significant progress on a weekly basis to grab market share away from Wix. Weebly and Shopify, to mention a few, are direct competitors of Wix. Examine our Shopify guide to discover how they stack up against Wix.
